You can fish them across different current speeds much easier than with a std fly rod. You can cast these 1oz controlers very easily and a long way to. With practice you can dead drift the fly or give it subtle movement by varying the angle of cast made across the current and then swinging the controler across the current much like a fly Rodder would. That fly will depending on the angle you fish your rod stay in the surface or dibble on it or fish very shallow. I would tie a fly on the end connection on a 3 or 4 foot trace and also tie in a dropper about 2 feet in front of the controler. For your fishing I would go for the 30g approx 1oz size. You can, but there is a very good controler made by a french company Ragot. Secondly, I am going to start tying my own teasers soon and I'm wondering if things like devievers can be used as a teaser or will they not "swim" correctly? So, my question is does anyone have any experience using a rifle hitch on a teaser or can anyone offer a suggestion? I went back during daylight to see what it looked like and I think the weight of my plug is causing the teaser to sink. In a desperate attempt to catch a summer bass I tried to rifle hitch a small green teaser fly. So, the rifle hitch as I understand it, is suppose to make the fly "bob" in the water much like a spearing or other tiny baitfish. It happened all night long and I felt like I was being tortured! They would storm in to about a foot of water, you could hear the spearing going nuts and then a huge splash from the bass feeding, a tailslap and they were gone! Everything I threw was too big, the bass were eating the tiny baitfish. This is why I have decided I NEED to fly fish. I threw every plug in my bag for ten hours but they ignored every offering. One night in early July I came across a good number of bass in the inlet hammering spearing. In fact, I caught six, all on artificials and all from the sand! (Not a single keeper however!) For now, I am fishing with light spinning gear and having pretty good sucess. Now, I don't yet fly fish but plan to start when my budget allows. So, I have been reading a lot over the summer and I came across the idea of a rifle hitch.
